Rant: My July Makeup No Buy

Hi Lovelies!

This may sound strange coming from someone who does beauty blogging, but I have decided the time has come to do a No Buy month! My husband and I are planning a trip to Italy and Ireland later this summer, so I am trying (poorly) to stop spending so much money on things that aren’t a necessity. I usually buy what I want on a deal, but I buy it. I don’t buy anything HUGE mind you, but $40 eye creams and $10 BB creams add up!

I was organizing our office today (my half is my makeup room!) and it hit me how much stuff I REALLY have. I was also looking through all of the clothing I have accumulated over the last two months or so. Most items are still in the ORIGINAL bags with tags on them, in the place I put new purchases after I go shopping. That is ridiculous! I’ve decided that I am cleaning out my closet and house and trying to get rid of as many things as possible to declutter my life. A few things may be returned to the store, but most things I do really like, I just haven’t sifted through the clutter to get to them!

This will be the first time I have done an official No Buy, so we’ll see how it goes! I work in retail at an outdoor mall, so it does make it harder to avoid the temptation (especially when one of my favorite stores – American Eagle – JUST opened this past week and it’s an outlet location!

I’m hoping this will also help me use up some of the millions of products that I’ve accumulated over the last few months! Many are awaiting reviews, so it will make it easier for me to review them when I’m not constantly buying new things to add to the pile!

Have you ever done a No Buy? How hard was it to avoid the temptation? What did you get right away when the month ended? Let me know below!

And give some of my product a new home!

Rave: One of my favorite brands lately…

Hi guys!

Just a quick post to rave about a brand that I’ve been using more and more of lately! I’ve been LOVING philosophy!

I switched to the Hope in a Jar for my daily moisturizer. If you are looking for something light for something, I highly recommend it! It’s light in feel and fragrance, and soaks right into my skin. I have oily skin, so this is nice because it really packs int he moisture to my few dry patches without making the rest of my face crazy oily!

The Hope in a Jar Night is nice too, but a bit heavier. I just switched to that and the Eye Hope eye cream for my nightly routine so I will let you know the results/ changes that I see in my skin.

Probably my overall philosophy favorite though is the Resurface 2 step peel. It’s citrusy and warming when you add the activating gel in the second step. It’s one of the only products in my life that I’ve ever seen IMMEDIATE results right after I used it the first time!

Do you have a favorite product from philosophy? Or does another brand blow you away? Let me know below!

Haulin’: Small Ulta Haul – June

Hi guys!

My mom and I went to do some exchanges at Ulta today, so I thought I would show you what I picked up while we were there!

I did get one item at a local hair salon and NOT at Ulta, but I included it in this post so that I wouldn’t have to do a separate one for that too!

I returned a lip liner that was Ulta brand, a glitter top coat Ulta brand eyeshadow, and my Stila BB Trio that I reviewed recently. Instead, I grabbed:

Bliss Facial in a Box – $12

Ulta Eyeshadow in Lustre -$4 on sale

NYX Chunky Dunk in Pink Bikini-$5.99

NYX Rouge Cream Blush in Natural -$6.99 (then had a coupon for 20% off one item, so came down to $5.59)

At the hair salon, I got the Redken Pillow Proof Blow Dry Trial Kit -$15

This is a swatch of the Chunky Dunk Lipie (is it just me who can’t stand that word? lol)

This is the Ulta shadow is Lustre. It’s very pretty and subtle for an all over wash of color when I want a quick easy and effortless look. I’ve had great luck with Ulta shadows in the past. I only returned the one mentioned above because the description was off from the actual product (I bought that one online).

The Bliss Facial in a Box kit was an impulse purchase at the register. It has a mask, Peel and a treatment all in small sizes to try. The exact contents are: Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask, That’s Incredi-‘peel’, and Triple Oxygen Ex-‘glow’-sion. I’ll let you know how I like these once I take them for a test run!

Here is the NYX Rouge Cream Blush in Natural. It’s very creamy and easy to blend. I also like that it is pigmented enough to show up easily, but not so much so that it’s going to look crazy on my extra-pale skin.

This is the stuff I grabbed for the salon. I have heard great things about the pillow proof system, but I didn’t want to pay 15-20 apiece and then have it potentially not work for me. These should give me just a couple uses, but I’d gladly pay $15 to try them out than almost invest almost $40 to hate them, and not be able to return them because this is a small business.

Have you had any luck with this system? Any great finds at your local Ulta lately? Let me know in the comments!
