Review: Benefit They’re Real! Push Up Liner

Hey guys!

I thought today I would post a review of the Push Up Liner from Benefit! I know a lot of people went over this awhile back but I thought I would give my take on it too since some of my friends have been asking about it.

benefit2

Now for me, Benefit seems to be completely hit or miss. I either LOVE their stuff, or I find that some of it is way over-hyped and not at all worth the money. Let’s see how this held up.

benefit1

The applicator and Accuflex tip are supposed to be the big innovations on this product. You twist the pen to get the liner flowing, then with just a flick you can imprint the tip onto your eye to line up your wings, fill them in and BAM, you have flawless matching wings. Not so much in actual use.

The tip didnt have a large enough opening for me to be able to put a mark where I wanted my wings to be that was still noticeable on my hooded eyes. Lining my eyes was fine, but it was more of a pain than it was worth. I could have used my normal liner and it would be way faster (there is a learning curve with this but in my opinion I am not patient enough to bother).

The formula itself is very dry compared to what I was expecting. It is not as black as I was hoping for either, so I feel like most days I would end up putting a liquid liner over this anyway, which kind of defeats the purpose of using this one. The little orange piece in the photo above is supposed to be taken out and then put back in each time you use it to help keep it from drying but I think the formula is too dry in general for that to make a huge difference.

In the photo below this was my first time trying it after I got anything out. The pen is easy to maneuver, but as you can see on the lower left swatches, it can drag and be very dry, even upon first use!

benefit3

Now I get it that sometimes when you use something new, you have to click or spray it or what have you a few times to get it going. I had to click my pen OVER 50 TIMES to get this going! After a minute or so I was wondering if this was a joke, but nope, it was painfully real. I’m paying $24 to have 50+ clicks without ANYTHING coming out? I call BS on this.

The staying power was okay but once again I think this is something that the makeup world went overboard on with high expectations and the result ended up falling flat. I not only will NOT buy this again, but I will be returning the one I bought as well.

My sister does have this and loves it. She found that it stayed very well on her skin and was matte black enough for her (she is paler that I am at an NC10! and even that is a bit dark sometimes!!), but I would rather save the money and use a drugstore liner since they seem to give me the same results.

Have you tried the Benefit They’re Real! Push Up Liner? Let me know what you thought of it in the comments below!!

Review: Stila BB Trio

Hi guys!

  • Leaves a silky, powdery finish
  • Reduces pore size and provides oil and blemish control
  • Contains micro spheres, to hide skin imperfections and reduce wrinkle depth
  • Reduces redness and skin irritation
  • Diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Increase anti-oxidant activity
  • Provides seamless, smooth coverage
  • Ideal for all skin types and skin tones
  • Oil-free, paraben-free and dermatologist tested

I personally really like BB’s when I’m looking for more sheer-medium coverage. I use them on my day off, while I’m running errands, etc.

Most true BB creams come in one shade that are meant to be blended and buffed into the skin until it matches with your skin tone. I was not able to do that with any of these. They were just too dark for my ridiculously pale skin.

I thought that maybe I could use the bronzing to contour, but it had too much of a sheen to it for me to be able to use it for that purpose. The original formula also didn’t have the buildable coverage that some of my favorite BBs have without giving me a weird orangey glow. It also did not have the wear time of many of my other BBs. I see this as more of a tinted moisturizer where I usually go for heavy duty BBs.

If I was going to purchase one, I would get the illuminating, but I tend to favor a more matte look since I have oily skin, so these will be going back to the store sadly. I much prefer NYX’s BB formula or Benefit’s Big Easy which I will review later.

I have one more concern that I can’t seem to find additional info on. I have been reading up on micro beads and micro spheres and how bad they are for the environment. Most are made from plastic and are so small they get into our water, but I can’t find if the spheres in this product are plastic or just something just used to market the product as innovative (or both).

L to R: Original, Illuminating, and Bronzing.

This second photo is when I just started to blend them into my skin.

Please let me know if you have any info on the micro-spheres in this product as well!

Review: Benefit’s Erase Paste

Hello ladies!!

Benefit Cosmetics - Erase Paste

Photo via Sephora.com

Today I thought I would do a review on Benefit’s Erase Paste. I have been on a Benefit kick lately, but it’s important to note that for most people Benefit is extremely hit or miss.

I wanted this to be a hit so badly. I really did. But unfortunately it’s a HUGE miss. I ended up returning this after a few weeks because I kept coming back to it and being disappointed over and over again.

Here’s why:

-Shades- I am WAY too pale for even the fair shade. It only comes in 3 color options, so I feel like it would be hard to match most people. I will say that I do like the peachy tone of this to use for under eye concealing, as it helps to cancel out the blues.

-Texture – I found this to be really tacky and thick. It does melt a bit into skin, but too much to where it looked caked on and fell into fine lines, even if I only used the tiniest amount of product.

-Packaging- It’s very cute on the outside, as most Benefit packaging is. It comes with a small spatula so you can scoop out a little bit of product and put it on the back of your hand to warm it? I mean I did clean it, but it just ends up being a waste of plastic. The damn thing is so easy to loose. I’m not even sure how you would travel with the spatula without leaving it somewhere or having it in the depths of your makeup bag. You can just dip in with a finger, but at the time I owned this I had acrylics on and it ended up just being a mess. You can also try it out with a concealer brush, but I found the product to be too thick.

-Finish – The finish on my skin was heinous. It’s meant to have a little satin-y finish to it (not too matte) but it ends up emphasizing imperfections, which is not ideal if you are trying to use it for blemishes or have any types of fine lines under your eyes! It looks too cakey and thick to be natural.

I will say that for some people this is a HG product for under eye concealing, which is why I was so excited to try it. Many use it just for that and not for blemish concealing, but for me it was a major miss on both fronts.

Have you tried this and love it, or do you have a better concealer that is your go to product?

Haul/Rave: How I Got Tons of Free Stuff at Sephora!

Hey guys!

So the day before the big VIB Sale at Sephora, I placed an order for other items so that I could maximize my deal codes/points/GWP’s. Here’s what I grabbed!

Kat Von D Tattoo Concealer

For starters, I bought Kat Von D Tattoo Concealer. I got the lightest color available, but it is still a bit dark on my skin. I tried it out in store though and it covered the black in my tattoos and was resistant to fading. I will just put some lighter powder over it and blend it out to get it to match my skintone. This was $25 but qualified me for the bag and samples below.

This was a bag that I found a code for when looking on the Sephora website. You can choose from 4 different bags which all contain different items (As of the date of this post, the 3 other options are still available with $25 purchase. Just enter code BLITZ at checkout!)

The samples are listed below and came in a cute black makeup bag:

  • Living proof. frizz nourishing styling cream 1 fl. oz.
  • CLEAN Original Eau de Parfum 0.03 fl. oz.
  • Too Faced Beauty Balm in Nude Glow 0.17 oz.
  • Living proof. prime style extender 0.33 fl. oz.
  • BUXOM Lash Mascara in Blackest Black 0.2 fl. oz.
  • Origins Plantscription Anti-aging Cream SPF 25 0.5 oz.
  • fresh Sugar Lip Treatment SPF 15 in Petal 0.07 oz
  • Urban Decay B6 Vitamin-Infused Complexion Prep Spray 0.5 fl. oz.

With every purchase on Sephora.com, you get to choose 3 free samples. For these I got Marc Jacobs Daisy, Burberry Brit Rhythm for him, and YSL L’Homme Libre.

Then I also used some of my Beauty Insider points that I have been saving (for nothing in particular, I just kept them because I hadn’t found anything worth using them on). It seemed like a lot of the good stuff all came around at once, so I cashed in!

I snatched up a Lancome Energie De Vie Dullness Relief & Energy Recharge Daily Cream for 100 points. This is a really big sample compared to the size I thought it was going to be!

My other 100 point reward was a Clinique Chubby Stick Intense Moisturizing Lip Color Balm in Mightiest Maraschino. This is a vibrant classic red that I can’t wait to find an excuse to wear!
Then came the 500 point freebie from Urban Decay!

wedding 120

This came with deluxe samples of the B6 Vitamin Infused Complexion Prep Spray, All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray, Eyeshadow Primer Potion – Anti Aging, and Eyeshadow in Mushroom which is a gorgeous grey shimmer.

Finally, because it was my birthday month, I got the free birthday samples with this order from benefit.

Benefit Samples shown with Deluxe Lancome 100 Point Sample

The birthday items are They’re Real! mascara which I am absolutely in love with, and Watt’s Up! highlighter. This little guy is a cream to powder with the exact right balance of brightening and shimmer.

So if you add up each free item that I got, it totals 20! Amazing for only buying one thing, right? I will say that the way that i was able to do this was by saving up points and waiting to get the concealer for over a month before I found the right time. I found an amazing online code to put on top of my points, as well as my free birthday items and the samples that come with every order. I love when I can place an order online and feel like I robbed the place!!

Anyone else have as good of luck (or even better)?
