Review: MAC Rocky Horror Picture Show Collection

Hey guys!

A few weeks ago, I stayed up in great anticipation to grab some items from the MAC Rocky Horror Picture Show collection!

I changed my mind about 15 times as to what items I was going to grab. It didn’t help too that the launch was plague with issues. MAC was supposed to release this collection on Sept 29th. Then word on the internet was that it wouldn’t be out until the 30th (so some people wound up staying up 2 nights in a row). Then MAC tweeted a statement saying it would be out around noon. They missed this deadline as well and when the collection finally launched, they were missing one of the most anticipated items – Frank-N-Furter lipstick. Rumor on the street is that there was a problem with one of the FNF batches, which is why the entire collection was delayed.

Anyway, once I was FINALLY able to place my order, I went as quickly as I could. This was no time to look around. I felt like I was that crazy person during Black Friday that just throws EVERYTHING in their cart and runs to the register. lol.

The packaging on all of the items that I got is amazing! The picture below is of the inside of the blush box, but they all have this image of the characters inside!

IMG_2387

I grabbed the Crazed Imagination limited edition blush because it was a pretty purpley-bronze shade on my monitor. When I swatched this, I was VERY disappointed. I was aware that it was sheertone but there is literally almost NO coor payoff on these, even though I am super pale. It was also more on the brown/bronze side than I had been hoping for.

Oct10

My sister and I happened to stop at a MAC store the day of the in-store release and while I was there I showed her how poor the pigmentation was. The sales woman snarkily told me (because I had just swatched it with my finger and got nothing as far as color payoff) that since people had been rubbing their fingers all over it all day that of course it wouldn’t have any payoff since the oils from everyones hands were all over it. I understand this may be somewhat true, but I replied back that even my BRAND NEW item that I was shipped had poor payoff as well and I walked away. I was a bit irked by it however.

Moving on, the next item was the pigment. This shade was another limited edition shade called ‘It’s Not Easy Having a Good Time’. Again, I’m not sure if I have a monitor issue or not, but this looked like a beautiful plum with a bronze shift. This turned out to be a bronze with a reddish shift. Not bad, but also not something   I was crazy for or would use all the time like I would have had it been the shade I thought it was!

Oct12

I grabbed some of the blue base red lipsticks since I have pink undertones. The first is ‘Oblivion’ which is very bright and has an almost satiny finish.

RH2

Next is ‘Frank-N-Furter’ which is the one that was much waited on and had the potentially botched batch haha.

This one is a pretty matte and looks like a great go-to fall blue red.

RH3

The Formidable nail polish was the one item that I got because the histeria, lack of sleep, and the craziness of the sale got the best of me. I paniched and picked the shade I liked better, only to find out right after I placed my order that this color in particular is part of their permanent collection and was just shown in the fancu packaging. The only other polish shade was one that was a repromote or limited edition so Bad Fairy is the one that I left behind in the chaos.

IMG_2391

The products are all the same quality that we have come to know and love from MAC. I also love that the RHPS graphics on the packaging are on there really well. They aren’t like a cheap sticker that is very easy to scratch off.

Below are some swatches of a few of the items. We have Frank-N-Furter at the top, Oblivion in the middle, and then the Crazed Imagination blush at the bottom. The top photo is in direct sunlight. The one below is the same swatches but in indoor lighting.IMG_2395

Review/Haul: Kiko

Hi guys!

I have been MIA for a bit, partially because of an extended vacation with the husband. You better believe that while we were gone I got some new makeup to share with you!

KIKO is a brand that is found in Europe and the US (in NYC and soon Miami). I hadn’t really heard of it before except on facebook groups because one of their eye shadows is a dupe for MAC’s Whisper of Gilt which is going for $100+ USED online! Crazy, right?

kiko2

Anyway, let me show you all the things I got!

Now one thing that I’m not crazy about with this brand is that most items are just numbered instead of having names for the shades.

First I picked up  Eye Shadows in shades 118,152,172

kiko3

152 is a pretty plum purple

172 is a grey

118 is a champagne

kiko5

Swatched on hand (152, 118, 172)

kiko6

The colors are pretty pigmented with the exception of the champagne color, 118. The pigmentation is not horrible, you just need a second swipe and you are good to go! The shadows are really big for the price. i’m not too crazy about the clear plastic domed lid on the packaging. It just feels cheap to me and they can be hard to get open.

Next is Sun Lover’s Blush. I believe this is a limited edition item. I got it on sale there and was really intrigued by the powder itself. Below is the box and packaging…

kiko7

I grabbed the shade Atlantic Camellia. It is a bright watermelon pinky blush. The other side is a swirl of bronze and baby blue. When the whole thing is swirled together, it is a watermelon shade with an almost opalescent finish.

Again, not crazy about the packaging on these. The compact is about 3/4 inch tall, but almost all of that height is from the lid. The portion with the blush itself is fairly thin. The lid does have a mirror inside, but I just can’t see this being very travel friendly because of the bulky packaging.

kiko8

I grabbed some more of the LE items, including the Street Fashion Eyeshadow Palette .

kiko9

I got 02 Addictive Song. It comes with 5 shadow shades and has a pretty large mirror in the lid.

kiko10

The shades do not have names or numbers, but the swatches are below. They don’t quite match the placement in the palette, but as you can see the deepest brown is below the other colors in my swatches (it is the top color in the palette). Then we have the plum shade, rosey pink, fawn, and white. All of the shades are matte and again I found that some of the shades are more pigmented than others. I do like the darker shades as they have great payoff (all of the swatches are one swipe in pan and one on hand, no primer). The lighter shades aren’t as pigmented but can be built up.

kiko11

Glow Touch for Lips and Cheecks (as the box says haha) comes in a circular tin. I got 103 Heavy Honeysuckle.

kiko12

This is the WORST packaging I have ever experienced on a product EVER. Period. I love this stuff but I literally struggled with getting the lid off of this for 5 minutes before I used a knife to pry the damn thing off. Somehow the lid gets suctioned off and you can’t get it to release unless you pry the side to equalize the pressure and get rid of the vacuum that’s created when you pull. It would be much better if it were a threaded lid. You get a TON of product though and maybe as I use it, it will become easier to open.

Maybe my nose is just messed up right now, but this does not smell at all like honeysuckle. It smells like brownies to me haha.

kiko13

Swatched in shade to show how opaque it applies. I have found that it is a bit drying when used alone on the lips, so will have to see how it performs as a cheek stain.

kiko14

Rock Attraction Blush in 03 Crossroad Pink

kiko15

This has the same style packaging as the quad, but when you open it, it has an imprint of a jean pocket in it which I think it cute and adds to the aesthetic of the blush.

kiko16

This looks super bright in the pan, but when swatched it becomes a more sheer, very cool toned pink.

kiko17

This is Glamorous Eye Pencil in 407 which is a navy shade. It is on the harder side, but can be blended and smudged for the desired effect.

kiko18

Kiss Balm in Strawberry was a register impulse purchase (they were using it as their add on by offering it to each customer that got up there). but is probably my favorite thing that I got! It does on really gel like and is super bright! I got the strawberry, but wish I would have grabbed other shades/flavors.

kiko19

Hard to see the brightness in the swatch, but on the lips it is a bright pinky-red.

kiko20

Overall I got everything for great prices and most were on clearance. Im happy the products are made in Italy since that is where I bought them. Some of the items lack a bit in pigmentation or packaging, but you can’t beat this brand for the price and there are some definite winners here.

If you can get your hands on this brand, I say what are you waiting for?

Have you tried Kiko?

Haulin’: Small Ulta Haul – June

Hi guys!

My mom and I went to do some exchanges at Ulta today, so I thought I would show you what I picked up while we were there!

I did get one item at a local hair salon and NOT at Ulta, but I included it in this post so that I wouldn’t have to do a separate one for that too!

I returned a lip liner that was Ulta brand, a glitter top coat Ulta brand eyeshadow, and my Stila BB Trio that I reviewed recently. Instead, I grabbed:

Bliss Facial in a Box – $12

Ulta Eyeshadow in Lustre -$4 on sale

NYX Chunky Dunk in Pink Bikini-$5.99

NYX Rouge Cream Blush in Natural -$6.99 (then had a coupon for 20% off one item, so came down to $5.59)

At the hair salon, I got the Redken Pillow Proof Blow Dry Trial Kit -$15

20140605-184553-67553182.jpg

This is a swatch of the Chunky Dunk Lipie (is it just me who can’t stand that word? lol)

20140605-184554-67554085.jpg

This is the Ulta shadow is Lustre. It’s very pretty and subtle for an all over wash of color when I want a quick easy and effortless look. I’ve had great luck with Ulta shadows in the past. I only returned the one mentioned above because the description was off from the actual product (I bought that one online).

20140605-184944-67784370.jpg

The Bliss Facial in a Box kit was an impulse purchase at the register. It has a mask, Peel and a treatment all in small sizes to try. The exact contents are: Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask, That’s Incredi-‘peel’, and Triple Oxygen Ex-‘glow’-sion. I’ll let you know how I like these once I take them for a test run!

20140605-185330-68010098.jpg

Here is the NYX Rouge Cream Blush in Natural. It’s very creamy and easy to blend. I also like that it is pigmented enough to show up easily, but not so much so that it’s going to look crazy on my extra-pale skin.

20140605-185329-68009171.jpg

This is the stuff I grabbed for the salon. I have heard great things about the pillow proof system, but I didn’t want to pay 15-20 apiece and then have it potentially not work for me. These should give me just a couple uses, but I’d gladly pay $15 to try them out than almost invest almost $40 to hate them, and not be able to return them because this is a small business.

20140605-185455-68095881.jpg

Have you had any luck with this system? Any great finds at your local Ulta lately? Let me know in the comments!

Haulin’: ELF -March 2014

Hey guys!

I went a little bit crazy on the ELF website and thought I would share what I grabbed, which things I’m loving, and which I would pass on next time!

DSC_0002

They always send your loot in a cute little drawstring bag.

DSC_0004

I couldn’t wait to sort it so I just dumped it on my makeup desk.

First item up is the Shimmering Facial Whip.

DSC_0007

It makes for a great little highlighter and is only a buck!! The shade I bought is Golden Peach.

DSC_0011

I have just a touch on my hand (the goldish color in the middle of the back of my hand). It catches the light nicely and is just glowy versus having to much shimmer. It can also be sheered out with a bit more blending, but I wanted to leave it a bit stronger so the camera could still pick it up.

DSC_0013

These are the Natural and Dramatic lash sets. Natural is on the left. Each set is only $1 and comes with glue (although I have not tried their glue before and have my own as backup).

DSC_0014

I love ELF’s brushes. They’re so soft for the price and I can get as many of them as I want for only $1 each.

DSC_0016

This Blending Eye Brush is soft and not too stiff. The bristles are fairly tightly packed and have a lot of movement to them.

DSC_0018

The Essential Defining Eye Brush is another one I picked up. I got this for washes of color or using in the crease. Again a soft brush for how cheap it is!

DSC_0034

The Essential Crease Brush has more of a dome shape to it than the other two. It’s good for smudging and defining. Soft but a bit stiffer than the other two.

DSC_0036

Next I picked up some of the Glitter Primer. I’ve heard good things about it and since it was only $2 I figure why not go ahead and give it a shot.

DSC_0038

It may be harder to see in the photo, but when swatching it, it had the look and consistency of glue.

DSC_0042

I do like the applicator and how nicely it comes out of the tube. (I didn’t clean it off on purpose so that you could see the glue-like texture on the applicator sides). I haven’t use it yet, but I’ll report on how well it holds glitter on when i get a chance to use it on a night out!

DSC_0045

I got an Eyebrow Kit for $3 and chose the medium kit.

DSC_0046

From just a first impression, the packaging looks eerily similar to NARS (though they do feel different). I also think the product inside looks close to Benefit’s BrowZings, but I haven’t tried that yet.

DSC_0047

The darker side is a wax, and then the lighter side is a powder that you apply over the wax to help it set and appear more natural. DSC_0048

It does come with a little brush, but I think I will be using one of my own brushes instead.

DSC_0049

Tinted Moisturizer for $3? Sign me up. I got this is Porcelain.

DSC_0052

Unfortunately as you can see from the streak in the middle of my hand, Porcelain is way too dark on my skin (how sad is that sentence? haha). It’s not so much the depth as it is the MUCH too yellow shade for my skin tone. I will use this up by sheering it out with some of my daily moisturizer (even though this is moisturizer I will mix it with one that does not have a tint) and then dusting ELF’s HD Powder over it. The powder usually has a lightening effect which should help in this situation.

DSC_0054

The HD Blush was a complete impulse buy for $3. I got it in Superstar which is one of the lightest shades available.

DSC_0055

It may not look like much, but it is one full pump of product…

DSC_0056

This is it when stippled all over my hand. It is SO MUCH product! For both cheeks I’m assuming I will need about half a pump which means this stuff should last me ages.

DSC_0058

So after the initial over-application, I wiped some off and blended the remaining blush. It’s a pretty rosy color with an almost purple iridescent shift to it.

DSC_0059

Here it is again in a different light so you can see how much more intense it can look in some lighting compared to others. It also acted almost as a stain and set immediately upon application. I do wish it had a little more give time, but it did not actually stain and came off very easily with a makeup wipe.

DSC_0060

The Contouring Blush and Bronzing Powder duo was my next purchase at a whopping $3.DSC_0061

Again the packaging has a striking resemblance to NARS in look but not in feel. It feels much more hard and smooth than the NARS cases.

DSC_0062

I’m assuming ELF made this as a way to dupe NARS Blush/Bronzer Duo of Orgasm and Laguna. DSC_0063

The bronzer is very pigmented so I will have to use a very light hand and a lot of blending since I am so pale, but again that means a little will go a long way. I’m interested to see how the blush compares in wear time to NARS Orgasm since I didn’t have the greatest luck with that. The only other  downside I see is that the bronzer has shimmer to it, which is not the best idea if you are looking to do natural looking contouring (as the kit’s name suggests).

My take though is even for the smaller, cheaper size of the NARS product, you can get 7 of the ELF version. That’s right -7 OF THEM. It’s worth the $3 risk and investment if you could potentially save a ton of $ if you do like it!!

DSC_0064

Probably one of my favorite things out of the whole haul is this Jumbo Lip Gloss Stick in Summer Nights. I was put off when I opened it by how dark it looked (I had specifically chosen a lighter shade out of the options available when I ordered). I was hoping this $2 stick would fair better than I got from my recent Ulta haul.

DSC_0066

This one did not disappoint! It is much more moisturizing than the Ulta brand one, cheaper (I can get 4 of these for the price of one of Ulta’s!), and it went on more sheer to show a really pretty pink color with a gold shimmer to it. It looks like Orgasm for you lips! On my next order I will be adding about 6 of these to my cart so that I can stash them all over my house, in my purse, at work, etc.

So far I would say overall I am happy with everything I got (especially for the price!) except for maybe the moisturizer. Again, it was worth the investment for me to get all of this stuff for so cheap and only end up with one item that I’m not crazy about. Even if I didn’t use it, I would only be out $3!

Do you have a favorite product from ELF or another brand that you get great steals and deals from? Let me know in the comments!

Review: NARS Blush in Orgasm

Hi guys!

I know there are a million reviews on this but I thought I’d give you one more to think about. This is a HG blush for a lot of people, and I hit pan in mine a few days ago, so this is overdue.

photo via Sephora.com

Orgasm is a peachy pink with gold micro glitter. The glitter doesn’t come off as being really chunky like you are going to a Ke$ha concert or anything, which is one thing I was originally worried about. I’m usually a fan of a more matte finish, but if that is the only thing you’re concerned about, I’d say give it a shot!

My big issue with this blush is the wear time. I look in the mirror after a couple of hours and it’s like I put nothing on. I have gotten in the habit of putting on some extra before I leave in the house so that it’ll still be there later on, but I probably look insane for the first hour or so.

Maybe it’s that my skin is more oily, but I’ve tried different primers, setting powders, etc and this just is not a product for me.

When the right amount is on it does look gorgeous, but for $29, I can get a few dupes or a few different quality blushes that will actually still be there a few hours after application. After this one is done, I’m going to pass and grab another brand to try instead of wasting more money on this wishing it will work for me.

Review/Rave: NYX Parallel Worlds Makeup Collection

Hello Lovelies!

I just posted about my Ulta Haul HERE, and this was hands down the thing that I got most excited about!

This kit was originally $25 and with the clearance price and 20% off, I paid $10 for this whole thing! Pretty amazing, right?

NYX Collection

This kit comes with a little bit of everything!

The Smokey Shadow Palette: They were selling this in the store separately for $7 alone so I think I made out like a bandit. This palette has 6 shadows that range for full on glitter sparkle to a more satin finish. I also like that they have a variety in color since it is a smokey palette, vs just having shades of black and grey.

Soft Matte Lip Cream in Istanbul: This has an insane color payoff and for me is pretty moisturizing. The color is a more of a true pink than I usually wear and the matte claim definitely holds true. I add some gloss over top (since I usually opt for some more sheen to my lip color) and I’m good to go! ($6 retail)

Boudoir Mascara Collection in Le Frou Frou: Each mascara in this collection has a different purpose but this seems to be the go to option. Le Frou Frou is their lengthening and volumizing option. It’s a rich black and has a straight, dense brush so that application to lower lashes (and those pesky inner ones) is super easy. ($6 retail)

Powder Blush in Pinched: This is a coraly pink with some gold glitter shimmer to it. Sound familiar? This can be used as a dupe for NARS Orgasm. It doesn’t have quite the amount of shimmer to it that the NARS option does, but honestly I prefer a little bit less. This one is almost a little bit heavier but with less color payoff if that makes sense.  Orgasm also has a more peachy base whereas Pinched has a coral base.

Now these sound like bad things, but honestly I PREFER this over the NARS option, even though for many it’s a Holy Grail product. Why? The texture of NYX Pinched has more staying power for me than Orgasm. I used to purposely apply more of Orgasm than I needed in the morning because an hour later it would be half as visible. Yes it has a bit better color payoff, but if there’s no staying power to it then does that really matter? To me, not so much.

And at $5 for .14 oz (vs NARS at $29 for .16), NYX Pinched comes out to be a MUCH better bang for your buck!!

Studio Liquid Liner in Extreme Black: This liner is a nice eyeliner to complement the sultry looks you can make with this collection. I have quite a few liners that I rotate on a daily basis, and this one has earned it’s spot in that rotation. I usually have an issue with my black liquid liners coming out lighter and looking to be more of a grey color, but when they say extreme black, they mean it! (retail $4.5)

Jumbo Eye Pencil in Cashmere: This is a mice shimmery champagne shade that is a great all over eye shade when you are in a pinch (read ‘hurry’ (read ‘every day of my life’) ). haha. I really like this paired with Urban Decay’s Primer Potion in Sin. They both have that champagne shimmer to them and then you can layer other shadows in or just build Cashmere on top of Sin if you are in a true hurry. Love! (retail $4.5)

As you can see, retail for all of these together is $33 separately. By getting them with all my deals, $10 was an AMAZING steal!

What’s your favorite beauty steal you have gotten lately? Have any different views of the products in this collection? Let me know in the comments below!
